Sample Category Salience Brief: CRM
This sample Category Salience Brief for CRM shows what a delivered Brief looks like, with Attio as the sample subject and HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM and Salesforce as its field. Sample, built from published High Salience data: our CRM teardown of 100 ChatGPT answers (September 17, 2026), plus one fresh read of 15 Google AI Overviews on October 9, 2026. Attio is not a client and did not ask for this; we chose it because its numbers are already public on its brand page.

01Verdict
The verdict on Attio in CRM search: shortlisted for startups, thin on sources
The verdict on Attio in CRM search is that it is shortlisted for startups in both ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews, but thin on the sources that describe it.
Attio owns a clear condition, a flexible CRM for startups and product-led teams, and Google's AI Overviews named it in 4 of 5 startup and B2B SaaS questions on October 9, 2026. HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho CRM and Salesforce hold the broad category questions, where Attio was not named in any of the 4 Overviews. The pages Google cites to describe Attio belong to other companies: attio.com was not among the 115 source links in those 15 Overviews.
The evidence follows: who gets named, which sources sit behind the answers, three moves in order of payoff, and where the commercial opening is.
02Market Map
CRM market map: who Google and ChatGPT name for 15 buyer questions
The CRM market map for these 15 buyer questions puts the same four names on top in Google and ChatGPT, with Attio behind them on both surfaces.
| Brand | Google AI Overviews naming it, of 15 (October 9) | ChatGPT answers naming it, of 15 (September 17) | ChatGPT answers picking it, of 15 (September 17) | ChatGPT picks, all 100 CRM questions (September 17) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | 14 | 14 | 14 | 69 |
| Pipedrive | 11 | 10 | 10 | 53 |
| Zoho CRM | 10 | 9 | 7 | 45 |
| Salesforce | 8 | 11 | 9 | 37 |
| Freshsales (context) | 8 | 5 | 4 | 19 |
| Attio (sample subject) | 6 | 5 | 5 | 9 |
Google: one desktop pull per question, United States, October 9, 2026; a brand counts when its name is in the Overview text. ChatGPT: the published CRM teardown, September 17, 2026, codebook v2.0; naming is the teardown's "appears" and picking is the answer's own verdict. On both surfaces, the brand an "alternatives" question replaces is not counted for that question.
Both surfaces give Attio the same condition. In the September teardown, ChatGPT's labels for Attio included "Modern B2B/startup teams" and "Modern, flexible CRM/data model". On October 9, Google's Overviews called it best "for Product-Led Growth (PLG)" and best "for early-stage or technical startups". A condition that two systems repeat is an asset: the work is to carry it into more answers, not to rewrite it.
By question type, Google's Overviews named Attio in 4 of the 5 startup and B2B SaaS questions, in the one head-to-head that names it ("attio vs hubspot") and in 1 of the 3 alternatives questions ("pipedrive alternatives"); it was not named in the 4 broad category questions or the 2 other head-to-heads. ChatGPT named it in 3 of the 5 startup and B2B SaaS questions on September 17, plus the same head-to-head and alternatives questions.
03Source Gap
Source gap: the pages Google cites to describe Attio are not Attio's
The source gap shows in the pages Google's AI Overviews cite to describe Attio, which belong to other companies, while ChatGPT cites Attio's own site.
The 15 Overviews of October 9 listed 115 source links. Of those, 20 (17%) were on CRM vendors' own sites and 95 on third-party pages; attio.com was not among the 115. The sites cited most often were youtube.com (in 10 of the 15 Overviews), zapier.com (8), reddit.com (6) and hubspot.com (5). Our September note on YouTube in AI Overviews found the same vendor share across seven software categories: 17% of 2,395 Overview links.
ChatGPT reads the other way. In the September 17 teardown, 17 of the 56 citations in its answers to these 15 questions (30%) went to vendor sites, and attio.com was cited in 3 of the 15 answers: "best CRM for B2B SaaS companies", "attio vs hubspot" and "what CRM do you recommend for a software startup". Google's Overviews for those same three questions named Attio and cited other pages.
Two details show where the gap sits:
- The head-to-head. For "attio vs hubspot", HubSpot's own comparison page ranked #3 in Google and was one of the Overview's 13 sources. attio.com was not among the 17 organic results Google returned for that question.
- The startup list. In the Overview for "best CRM software for startups", the line naming Attio cited one source, a third-party YouTube comparison of four startup CRMs. The same video was cited in 3 of the 15 Overviews.
In Google's organic results, a hubspot.com page ranked in the top 10 for 6 of the 15 questions and a pipedrive.com page for 4; attio.com's one appearance was at #16, for "best CRM software for startups".
04Interventions
Three interventions for Attio, in order of payoff
Three interventions for Attio follow from the evidence, in order of payoff, and each is checked against the same 15 questions in the next read.
Get named on the broad category lists
The 4 broad category Overviews drew on 35 source links, 29 of them on third-party pages. Check each one for Attio, ask the editors of the pages that leave it out to review it, and make sure its startup and product-led case is stated where it is listed.
Win the "attio vs hubspot" result
HubSpot's comparison page ranks #3 and feeds the Overview. An Attio comparison page built to rank for that question, with a fair fork (when HubSpot fits, when Attio does), gives Google Attio's own words to cite.
Put the startup case on video
YouTube was cited in 10 of the 15 Overviews, and the one video behind Attio's startup line belongs to someone else. A short video that says who Attio is for, titled with the question buyers ask, gives Google a second source for that line.
What to leave alone: attio.com already does work in ChatGPT. It was cited in 3 of these 15 answers on September 17, and across the full teardown it was the most-cited source in the 9 answers that picked Attio, so changes to its own pages should keep the passages ChatGPT already cites.
05Commercial Opportunity
Commercial opportunity: where Attio's next CRM mentions would come from
The commercial opportunity is where Attio's next CRM mentions would come from: the broad category questions, where HubSpot and Zoho CRM were named in all 4 Google Overviews on October 9 and Attio was not named.
Across the full teardown, ChatGPT picked HubSpot in 26 of the 30 category questions and Attio in 3 (September 17, 2026). The startup and B2B SaaS questions are the base to build from: Attio is already named there in Google's Overviews, so each new source that states its case widens a position it holds rather than opening a new one.
In a delivered Brief, this section also sizes each question group with Google Ads search volume and cost per click for your own query set. This sample leaves volume out because it uses only published data and one fresh read.
06Method
How this sample CRM Brief was built
This sample CRM Brief was built from two dated reads of the same 15 questions, taken from the CRM teardown's published query list: 6 category, 3 head-to-head, 3 alternatives and 3 advice questions. Above, the 6 category and 3 advice questions are grouped as 4 broad category questions and 5 startup and B2B SaaS questions.
ChatGPT: web search on, logged out, United States, English, one run per question, collected September 17, 2026 and coded under codebook v2.0 by two independent AI readers. The full method and dataset are on the teardown page.
Google: one desktop pull per question on October 9, 2026 through the DataForSEO SERP API, United States, English, organic results to depth 20 plus the AI Overview. An Overview appeared for all 15 questions. A brand counts as named when its name appears in the Overview text once links and citation markers are removed. Vendor sites are the domains of the 52 CRM brands in the teardown's dictionary.
Limits: one pull per question is a single reading, not a range, and the two surfaces were read three weeks apart, so differences mix surface with date. A delivered Brief reads every surface in the same window and adds AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity. Attio is not a High Salience client, we did not contact Attio, and High Salience has no commercial relationship with any brand on this page.
A Brief like this one, run on your own category and competitors with a query set you approve first, costs $750.
