How ChatGPT Recommends Workday

Across 100 HR software questions, Workday appeared in 23 answers (rank 6 of every brand named) and was recommended in 16 (rank 6). That is a recommendation rate of 70% of its appearances, close to the 13-brand median of 64% for brands named 10 or more times.

When ChatGPT recommended Workday, it listed it first among its recommendations in 7 of 16 answers. On the 20 direct advice questions ("which should I use"), it was one of the picks 1 time.

We asked 4 questions about alternatives to Workday ("workday alternatives", "open source hr software alternative to workday", "simpler alternative to workday", "workday alternative for mid-size companies").

Google check: for 3 of the 16 questions where ChatGPT recommended Workday, workday.com also ranked in Google's top ten organic results for the same question. So most of these recommendations came on questions where its own site did not rank.

workday.com was the most-cited source in the answers that recommended Workday, so its own pages are doing real work in shaping how it is described.

In 13 of its 16 recommendations, workday.com did not rank in Google's top ten for the same question, so Google rankings alone do not explain where ChatGPT sends buyers.

Finding which sources shape the answer in a category, and making sure they describe the brand accurately, is the core of AI SEO.
